Better late than never

Ten things on Tuesday:

1.  I had a miserable, evil, life-sucking migraine today.

2.  As a result of this evil migraine, nothing much was accomplished.  The Princess missed dance, The Boy missed Taekwondo, and the pantry is still depleted.  I am feeling slightly better this evening after the medication finally kicked in.  Hooray for Imitrex.

3.  The Princess did make it to the orthodontist this morning.  She had a fabulous checkup, and was told that the tin grin...
...is almost a thing of the past.

She gets the braces off right after Thanksgiving!

4.  The Princess also saved the day for her brother - she found his wallet for him.  She also bargained (like the little Dutch girl she is) and talked him into emptying the litterbox for her for the rest of the week as payment for her performing this vital and important community service.  Yay Paige!

5.  Because of the aforementioned evil migraine, the kids enjoyed a gourmet meal of Dominoes pizza for dinner this evening.

6.  Because of the aforementioned Imitrex, I feel like a rag doll whose head has been stuffed with cotton.

7.  Because I feel as though my head has been stuffed with cotton, I am finding it difficult to find 10 things to say.

8.  Before the evil migraine attacked me and beat me up, I tried to pop into TJ Maxx for a few things we needed.  Have you ever noticed how many foreign people shop in that store?  I try to be understanding about them jabbering away in another language, because I know that I only speak English and I'm sure it annoys the people in France or Holland when I visit their countries.  I mean I'm sure they are thinking, "Hey bimbo!  You're in France - speak the language!"  So...you know, I DO try to be understanding.  But the thing is, when I am in another country I don't walk through the store SHOUTING into my cell phone.

9.  Granted, the evil migraine was trying to sneak up on me and attack me (and stab me with an icepick behind my left eye), and so I was slightly sensitive to loud noises.  But...I kid you not....this woman walked through the entire store SHOUTING jibber-jabber into her cell phone.  It was extremely annoying.  I think she may have been a secret agent of the evil migraine trying to destroy my mind.

10.  She succeeded.  That was the point where I gave up, cried "uncle", and came home and curled up into a fetal ball and cried....

Migraine. Sorry.

Crazy, out of whack hormones = Migraine = no post today

Sorry.

Speechless Monday with a bonus dash of astonishment and consternation

It is Monday, and I am pondering a few random things this morning, which have left me shaking my head in consternation...

I read a story in the paper this morning about auditions for a new naked reality show which is going to begin filming soon.  No, I am not making this up.  Click here if you don't believe me (or, ahem, if you'd like to audition).  I'm pretty much just speechless about this one - but I will say that I think it is time for this reality tv phenomenon to end.  Enough, already.  Seriously.  Yep, I'm absolutely speechless.

Amused and astonished, but speechless.

I also read about a Connecticut man convicted of killing a teenage bicyclist who is now suing the boy's parents.  Again, sadly, I am not making this up.  Click here to read about it.  This one just absolutely infuriates me.  Again, I'm just speechless.

Incensed and astounded, but speechless.

And finally, allow me to introduce my son...

You may have noticed that he is sitting in the passenger seat of the car in these photos.  That's right, he has not been driving the past few days...because he has managed to lose his wallet, which contains his learner's permit.  And his boater's license.  He has looked everywhere.

His father and I are speechless.

Aggravated, perplexed and flabbergasted, but speechless.

I'm sorry, but I have nothing more to say today.  Because, you know, I'm speechless.

Random much?

It's a beautiful morning.

The "kids" were all hanging out reading the paper and relaxing this morning...
The girls, Sophie and Lucy, are getting along like they've been BFF's forever.  Yesterday, Mr. Wonderful went to let Sophie out (because she was hovering by the front door like she needed to go out) and she just stood there.  Finally, Lucy sauntered over and the girls went tearing outside.

Mr. Wonderful just shook his head and made a comment about how they are allowed to go out by themselves and they don't really NEED to have company.

Then he started laughing and said, "What am I saying?  They're girls.  Of course going to the bathroom is a team sport!"

The Princess read the comics, while Gus watched...
as C hid from the paparazzi and cuddled with the dogs.

While C bonded with Lucy...
P bonded with Jack...

There was a lot of lovin' going on this morning...
But then the dogs decided it was time for their breakfast, the boy decided it was time to read the sports section, the cats decided it was naptime, P decided to finish reading the comics, and I decided it was time to wash the gray outta my hair.

Today, I am still on strike.  Sorta.

We will eat leftovers.

I will take Princess Twinkletoes to Nutcracker rehearsal, then I will take the crazy teenagers to youth group and while they are there I will take a bubble bath and enjoy my solitude.

Then I will have to pick the crazy teenagers up from the church, and my solitude will end.

That's OK.

They're crazy teenagers, but they're MY crazy teenagers.

**I have decided to post all of my lemon recipes on the MDSA facebook page if anyone is interested in trying them out.  If I post them, then I have made the recipe and eaten it and it was a hit with the family. I won't post hard or complicated recipes, or any "duds!"  Today's recipes: Pasta al Limone, Lemon Chicken, and Grilled Lemon Salmon.

Today, thus far

Today...

*I slept until 8:30 (delightful!) and awoke to the sunlight streaming through the windows and the sound of the eagles calling to each other out on the lake...

* I leisurely sipped my coffee and read the paper...

* I went to the grocery store, and wondered why I never remember to stock up before the weekend.

*  I zested and juiced more lemons from our abundantly laden tree, and mixed up a marinade for the salmon which we will have for dinner tonight and another for the chicken which I will cook this afternoon to have on hand for rushed mealtimes during the upcoming week.

*  I released my inner Mommie Dearest when the teenage boy decided to try sarcasm on me when I asked if he had done his chores.  He responded with more sarcasm and an annoying teenage attitude, and Mommie Dearest yelled and said some bad words.  The teenage boy is now being extremely apologetic and well behaved.  Mommie Dearest also tossed his clean sheets at him and told him that from now on he could fold his own *$(# laundry.  He told me that he didn't know how to fold sheets, and I told him that he'd better figure it out.  He did.

*  Mommie Dearest has decided she is going on strike, other than cooking.

*  The strike will begin as soon as I finish these two loads of laundry.

*  And as soon as I vacuum the living room rug.

*  I wonder if maybe I should clean the house first, and THEN go on strike.  Because I don't like living in a messy house, and I am afraid that nothing will ever get done if I go on strike.

*  Perhaps I'll ditch the strike idea and just make the annoying teenage child and his selfish, annoying teenage attitude grovel and plead for my forgiveness.

*  I wonder how anyone ever survives raising teenagers without falling into complete and utter despair and melancholy?

*  It is 3:53 pm, and other than the two loads of laundry and making dinner, and vacuuming...I'm done.  I am on strike.  Other than those things, I am going to read my book and take a bubble bath and have a glass of wine.  Other than those things, everyone can just fend for themselves!  Elvis has left the building.
