Only yesterday

Dear Eldest Child...

Wasn't it only yesterday...
that I "saw" you for the first time...and heard your heartbeat, and felt you kick, and suffered through the hiccups with you...

and I held you for the first time, and counted all your fingers and toes, and smelled your sweet new baby smell...

and Daddy held you for the first time...

That you loved to be held by Mommy and Daddy...and we waited for your little sister to be born...

and that Daddy could carry you around like this?

Wasn't it only yesterday that you dressed up like a pilot (like Daddy) for Halloween? (and had your first "girlfriend", Gessica)

Wasn't it only yesterday that you loved to jump in piles of leaves, and would giggle and giggle at the sheer joy of the moment?
Wasn't it only yesterday that you still liked to cuddle with me and didn't mind posing for pictures?

Wasn't it only yesterday that you were a toothless wonder with a mischievous twinkle in your eye...

and an earnest cub scout....

and wanted to be the Crocodile Hunter when you grew up...

and caught your first fish...

and you believed in Santa Claus?

Wasn't it only yesterday that you started high school?

If all those things happened only yesterday...how did we get to this point?

How did my baby boy become old enough to drive?

Just so you know...I don't like how fast you are growing up.
You're freaking me out.
You're making ME feel old.  And that's just not nice.

I'm definitely not old enough to have a kid who drives.

So just stop it.  Right this minute.  Come give your mommy a hug.  Stop getting so big and grown up.  Be my little boy for a little while longer.
Please.

Love, Mom
